I have been doing some research across the over 50 health and wellness industry and have found some interesting stats… Did you know, that more than half of adults aged over 50 years are insufficiently active (Chau et al. 2007). Furthermore, 1/3 are completely sedentary (ABS 2006).
I find these stats alarming yet understandable as those young at heart often have extremely busy lives sometimes with children still living at home and also looking after their elderly parents.
In addition, there is stigma surrounding going to the gym and working with a qualified personal trainers due to:
Feelings of in-adequancy, how do I use the equipment, will I do it right or hurt myself? Embarrassment and confidence issues
Feeling self conscious about not having a perfect body
In my opinion with over 25 years of industry experience, exercise for the over 50’s can provide a new lease on life, with physical strength, mobility and flexibility being the major goals of an exercise program.
Then there is the “feeling” that comes with being physically active.
That intuitive feeling that develops when we are active; somehow your body just feels more in tune⎪⎪ more grounded⎪⎪ stronger from the inside out⎪⎪more “RHYTHMIC” – it’s a matter of introducing this experience into the lives of those who have never been to a gym or done structured exercise.
Check out these 3-testimonals from my “young at heart clients”:
Kathe has been an inspiration to me, not just the importance of physical exercise forming part of my routine but also in relation to a variety of other lifestyle choices. Kathe has helped me to enjoy my life so much more and I highly commend the very valuable and cost effective work she does. Thanks, in great part to Kathe, I am well on the way to achieving my lifestyle goals.”
Kaye, 61; I had been to gyms before however the prospect of joining a new gym at 61 was somewhat daunting – even more daunting was two sessions with a personal trainer! I was pleasantly surprised to find Katherine to be extremely professional, encouraging and definitely keeps me interested. She has made me feel very comfortable in the gym, shown me how to use the machines and weights effectively and given me the confidence to try all the equipment. I feel it is more important now at my age to maintain a regular exercise regime. I have really felt the benefit of going to the gym for strength, better posture and alway come away feeling much better than when I went in. Weight training has been proven to improve strength, balance, bone density, posture and my mental wellbeing.
Katherine has been instrumental in getting me back into health and fitness. I am now 52 years old and have been training with Katherine for just over 2 years. She has been with me through surgery, mid life crisis and very poor self esteem and I am now the strongest and fittest I think I have ever been.
I may not have the body of a 25 yr old, but I now have the mental toughness and physical strength to make me believe I could be 25 again!!
I could not have done this without her total dedication and wholehearted belief that I was worthy and capable.
